Hi everyone! I know it’s been a while since I’ve written… I took the summer “off” to be with family and friends but summer is over and things are happening. Let me share a couple…
This fall, a wonderful private school in Tampa is implementing Matters of the Heart into their middle school curriculum. An amazing school in San Juan, Puerto Rico made Matters of the Heart required summer reading for their middle school girls and I will be visiting this school (and hopefully others as well) and Borders in San Juan in the beginning of October.
On another note, I want to share some other exciting news… Even though, as I’m sure you’ve noticed, newspapers often times depict what is wrong in the world, there are times when the news can be inspirational and create a stream of positive events. This past Sunday was one of those times...
As part of her bat mitzvah project, my daughter Leah took on an amazing program called "Give a Girl a Chance." This program raises funds to help educate young women in Africa and offer them a way out of what often times are cruel and terribly depriving situations. Throughout a series of amazing events, Leah had the great opportunity and honor of being interviewed by a fabulous reporter from the Sun Sentinel. Although we thought the article would be "short" and published during the week-day, the article was actually very extensive and was published this past Sunday and on the front page of the local community section!!! It's true that the article is great - it's incredibly well written and it depicts Leah doing something wonderful for others. But what is truly phenomenal is the response this article has produced in just a few days. We have gotten emails, calls from "strangers," orders online for the bracelets that Leah is selling to help raise funds, invitations to speak at local groups to help spread the word about "Give a Girl a Chance." It's all simply amazing but I’m not surprised. One positive action leads to another…
Imagine that our world, the universe for that matter, has a collective memory bank that stores all of your actions from the past, present and from the future. And what if these actions (whether positive or negative) had an impact on you and the well-bring of others - how would you conduct yourself? What actions would you be taking? You can take it a step further - what if your thoughts were also permanently recorded in this "universal memory bank" - what would your thoughts be? And as I presented in Thoughts Matter, your thoughts create your feelings and your feelings often times create your actions… What thoughts are you creating? How can you create more powerful thoughts, fueled with all that you want for yourself and for others? Let's all commit ourselves to depositing empowering, life-affirming thoughts into our "Universal Memory Bank!"
And like we learned in “Our Choices Matter,” it’s all up to you…. As always….
Open Your Heart to What Really Matters ….
Not too long ago, I went for my usual early morning run and soon into my run, I realized there was something different, something exciting “in the air” but I didn’t know what it was. And as I ran (with no Ipod!), out of nowhere, the song “There Can be Miracles if You Believe” from the movie The Prince of Egypt popped into my head!!!!! It’s a beautiful song but I didn’t understand why I was singing this song over and over and over again in my mind… The more I “played” it, the more excitement I felt and the more excitement I felt, the faster I ran. And what a run I had – totally amazing! Before I knew it, I was finished with my run but the song kept on playing in my head. And I wondered why but then I listened to the words…
Many nights we pray
With no proof anyone could hear
In our hearts a hopeful song
We barely understood
Now we are not afraid
Although we know there's much to fear
We were moving mountains long
Before we knew we could
There can be miracles
When you believe
Though hope is frail
It's hard to kill
Who knows what miracles
You can achieve
When you believe
Somehow you will
You will when you believe…
I couldn’t help but think of my book… I wrote my book because I believed in it’s message – the importance of discovering and listening to our inner voice and of having the courage to live your dreams. As a teen, I always valued the opinions of others over my own, often times “tuning-out” my inner voice, afraid to really listen. That morning I was reminded of the importance of listening, really listening because that inner voice is always present, waiting to be heard. And what was my inner voice saying to me that morning? At one point or another, we all experience challenges and difficult times but we must always, always believe in our dreams. My dream is to get my book into the hands of as many teen girls as possible and, I remain hopeful.
The end of another school year offers us the opportunity to take inventory of our dreams and of what we are doing to achieve them… “There can be miracles, when you believe…” What is your dream? Believe it and you will achieve!
Take good care and as always…

This week I had the great honor and pleasure of speaking at two extraordinary schools in Tampa – The Academy of Holy Names and Tampa Preparatory School.
In both schools, I had the opportunity of speaking to parents about one of the topics I enjoy most: “Mothers & Daughters – Connecting Here and Now…”
Just scroll down to check out the article Tampa Prep wrote about my visit to their school….

Matters of the Heart

What a great week! Once again, I was reminded of what I love most (besides spending time with my family!) - to speak to parents and daughters and together come up with new ways of strengthening our connection....

Hi everyone! I know this is short notice – and I know we’re all busy – but if you happen to have a few minutes tonight between 7:00 and 8:00 pm, please tune in to Chelsea Krost’e radio show, “Teen Talk Live – I will be a guest on her show and talk about my book, Matters of the Heart… The most exciting part is that my daughters, Becca and Leah will also be part of the show!!!
Chelsea is an 18 year senior in high school who knows what she wants (and that is to make a difference!) and is willing to work very hard for it… She’s an inspiration to many, especially the younger girls who are often easily influenced by negative influences. You can listen by either going to www.teentalklive.net or going to 1230 AM, and you’re also welcomed to call-in during the show! The number is 1-866-75-Teens.
Have a great day and remember to…

I may have mentioned this before but it’s worth mentioning it again…. Sometimes I think my book has a life of its own, I really do! It seems that when I put just a bit of time and energy into it, the “book” immediately responds – I get calls for more workshops, my book is selected as one of the “suggested summer reading” books, and I get book reviews… Take a quick look at the book review that follows written by Jennifer Wardrip, from TeensReadToo…
One thing is for sure: there is a need for girls to connect with what matters most to them. I believe there is another need that is just as important and as intrinsic: the need to re-connect with those that love us and deeply want what's best for us – whether it’s our own mothers/caretakers, a close friend, or mentor.
Let’s find time to re-connect!

There are numerous self-help books on the market, and a surprising number of them are for teens and young adults. Most have a way of telling you what to do to improve your life. MATTERS OF THE HEART, however, doesn't tell you how to live your life. Instead, author Corin Wiser offers practical tips, real-life examples, and ideas to help you brainstorm so that you can live the type of life that you want to lead.
The book covers several issues, all of them important, that deal with things that truly matter in life: you, your thoughts and feelings, your words and choices, your family and friends, your body, and even the world around you. MATTERS OF THE HEART is interactive, with lists, snippets of true stories, and even journal space and fill-in-the-blank areas that the reader can use to make notes or jot down important points.
This isn't a book geared towards giving you a perfect life. In fact, one of the strongest points of MATTERS OF THE HEART is that perfection is a goal that can never be attained. But with the right attitudes, goals, and mindset, teens really can transition into adulthood with confidence, self-esteem, and self-respect.
If you're the parent of a teen or pre-teen, or even know one who could benefit from a little nudge during the difficult time of life known as adolescence, hand them a copy of MATTERS OF THE HEART. Although the "feel" of the book definitely seems geared toward girls, I believe that guys, too, would benefit from the useful information inside this book.
Just last week I was invited to attend an incredibly special mother-daughter monthly girls club meeting. This group gets together regulary and participates in some type of activity. For this "get-together" (the one I was invited to attend), the group was asked to read Matters of the Heart and share the mother to daughter and daughter to mother insights. It was fun to be there - with two of my three daughters - and receive feedback not only from the "younger reader" but from the mothers themselves! I just received an email from one of the members of this mother-daughter club. She has shared two of the journal entries she's included in her Matters of the Heart book so far. Mind you, this 15 year old is absolutly
extraordinary and truly left me speechless the night we met. This is what she wrote:
"Corin,
Thanks so much for coming to our meeting! Here are the two enteries that I read
at the meeting:
Question: This is a description of who I am.../what do you want to be when you grow up?
Answer: I believe that everyone grows up at different points in thier lives through experiences, no matter how young or old. So instead of saying when I grow up...in twenty years, where would I like to see myself? My answer is that I have no idea what I would like my profession to be or where I would prefer to live. All I know is that throughout my life, I would like to be happy.
Question: If I could choose a special purpose in my life, I would chose to...
Answer: Help people. Whether it is helping a woman cross the street, getting a friend through a difficult time, or flashing a smile that could make someon's day, the high I get from volunteering myself for the good of others is indescribable. For community service this year, I went to a temple where a group of special needs patients called Best Buddies came to play with volunteers. Throughout the day, I began to realize how the little things I did like complement a woman's shirt or read a book to a boy would make their faces light up and gave them grins that lasted throughout the day. I believe that people are mean to do what makes them happy. After the day had ended, I was left with a stronger sense of self and happiness than I knew could ever be obtained.
Eventually, I would like to finish reading/writing entries in the book. If you would like, I can send them to you as I complete them. Thus far, by re-reading my answers that have come from my heart, I have already learned a great deal about myself and the type of person that I am and will always strive to be.
Thanks so much,
B. Z. "
Thank you to B.Z. for your great email! You are already a great role model to younger girls that clearly look up to you, and an inspiration to all that know you! And a most heartfelt thank you to the rest of the mother-daughter group members for inviting me to attend - I had such a great time! Your feedback on the book as well as the conversations that sparked as a result of our discussions, were insightful, helpful and, empowering to us all!
And as always, remember to...

Open your heart to what really matters…
What a great night last night! I was a guest on Chelsea Korst’s great radio show, Teen Talk Live (www.teentalklive.net). Although the topic was bullying and how our friendships matter, the discussion was more about what we can all be doing to avoid getting to the point were bullying/violence takes place. The answer was simple: If we spent more time giving of ourselves through volunteer work with worthy causes, violent incidents like the one with the cheerleaders in Lakeland a couple of weeks ago, or even the one described by a caller last night at her middle school (a boy was being ridiculed for wearing a religious cap to school and for looking a bit “different” than the other kids), would not be a part of growing up. Last night, during the radio show, I felt a true sense of connection, not only with Chelsea and the discussion panel, but with all of you who were fortunate enough to tune-in. I think we all felt empowered knowing that we can all spread some “positive energy” through our words and through our actions. There is a challenge though… We must take and be a part of this positive action NOW – not tomorrow, but NOW!

Matters of the Heart: A guide to living and loving your teen years
Meeting Corin Wiser was a privileged experience where I got to share a common goal with her, and that was to know that we girls need to find ourselves and not let the bad influences of the world around us affect who we are. I think that Wiser is a wonderful person who let God inspire her to write such a positive book where daughters and mothers can connect at a level that was never done before. We need some purity in this world and that purity is going to help us shape who we are by staying pure to ourselves.
Thank Corin,
Sadi

Matters Of The Heart
In a time when teenage girls are being bombarded with images of troubled celebrities, author Corin Wiser saw a critical need for a guidebook that would help young women connect with their inner voices. Matters Of The Heart: A Guide To Living And Loving Your Teen Years is written proof of her determination to empower girls. For more information, visit www.mymattersoftheheart.com.
It was a lot of fun to be on the NBC 6 South Florida Today show this morning and although I haven’t seen a clip yet (I hope to post one soon on the blog!), feedback so far has been great (but then again, what else would my husband, parents, sisters and friends say?)… The truth is that if at least one viewer was compelled to buy the book as a result of the interview, then the interview was a success! Now more than ever I clearly know what my purpose is: to have the book reach the hands of those teen girls that really need it!
I just wanted to share a few exciting things that are happening with my book, Matters of the Heart…

On April 14, 2008, NBC’s South Florida Today will feature author Corin Wiser, M.Ed., speaking about her newly-released book, Matters of the Heart: A guide to living and loving your teen years. The book offers simple and straightforward tools to help the reader discover her inner voice, or “internal guidance system,” and to overcome negative influences on the way to reaching her full potential. Every section offers sound, practical guidance, in the form of The Ten Matters, followed by personal insights from Nicki – a sixteen-year-old girl whose journal entries illustrate that the challenges and insecurities of teen life are all part of a natural process. The book includes writing prompts – questions that encourage girls to think about the choices they make, the goals they have, and the untapped power that lies within. By applying the universal principles presented in this book, the reader soon discovers the precious gifts within, as she learns, grows – and yes – thrives and succeeds during those challenging teenage years. This book is both a resource and a diary, and a must-have guidebook for all teen girls.

First of all, I would like to say I have very much enjoyed what I've read so far. I think this is a wonderful book for young girls forming their self image to read and remember while going through the moments in life which will define them.
One reference in chapter four (Words Matter) about Masaru Emoto's water experiment particularly caught my attention. While I have not had the pleasure of reading Mr. Emoto's book, the mention of him brought to mind a movie I had seen some time ago which I think ties in very nicely to your book.
The movie is called What the Bleep Do We Know!? I believe it came out four years ago. It follows a character named Amanda, a deaf photographer who is emotionally damaged by her husband's affair and divorce. It uses everything from our perception of reality to quantum mechanics to existentialism and metaphysical ideals to explain why this woman is unhappy and what she has to do to be able to love life again. It's a very fascinating movie and I think appropriate for 13 and older students.
I hope you get a chance to see the movie and write back with your opinion, I know its given me almost as much to ponder as your book has! There are lots of ideas out there I must get to mulling over, thank you for contributing to the collection of authors who really make me think.
Amazing, right? And this is my response to her…
